ROTHENHAUSER TO RODENHISER A Compilation from Family Member Sources Kenneth S. Paulsen contributed the first three generations:- I. HANS HEINRICH ROTHENHAUSER was born at Hofstetten, Erzbistum or Archbishopric of Mainz about 1651. His wife’s name is unknown. The date of his death, likely at Klein Heubach, is also unknown. Hans H. Rothenhauser was the mayor (Schultheis) of Hofstetten. II. 1. JOHANN ADAM MICHAEL ROTHENHAUSER (Hans Heinrich1) b: ca. 1676, Hofstetten; d: 16 August 1736 at Klein Heubach; m: 12 July 1701 at Klein Heubach, SUSANNE BECHTOLD d.o.: Matthaus Bechtold; b: at Klein Heubach 2 August 1666, d: Klein Heubach 16 February 1749. Johann Adam was a tailor. III. Children – 5 – surname Rothenhauser 1. SABINE MARGARETE 2. HANS GEORG 3. JOHANN PHILIPP FRIEDRICH 4. SUSANNA KATHARINA 5. JOHANN (Hans) MICHAEL III. 3. JOHANN PHILIPP FRIEDRICH ROTHENHAUSER (Adam2/Heinrich1) b. 22 July 1704, Klein Heubach, Lowenstein-Wertheim; d. at First Peninsula, Lunenburg Township, Nova Scotia 14 January 1794 (Zion Lutheran Church records). m. at Klein Heubach, Lowenstein, 13 January 1740 ANNA ELIZABETHA (Eliza) ZINK d.o. Hans Georg and Anna Barbara (Rodenbach) Zink Eliza b. at Klein Heubach about November 1712 and died at First Peninsula, Lunenburg Township, NS 17 April 1785 (ZLL) Family History Insert:- Johann Philipp was a baker in Klein Heubach. The Kirchenbuch (church book/parish register) records that he immigrated to America in 1751. He and his family arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia from Rotterdam on board the ship Murdoch. The ship manifest indicates that there were six people in his group: one adult male, two adult females, two boys, and one girl. In July 1752, Philipp Rothenhauser and his family were at the Blockhouse and the isthmus of Halifax (present day Dutch Village). The family consisted of six members. By February-April 1753, victualling lists implied that the family comprised five members. (His daughter Elizabeth had died by this time). In 1753 Philipp Friedrich Rothenhauser received a 30-acre Crown grant at Clearland Range A, Lot 2. By 1760 he had traded his 30-acre lot at Clearland with Gottlieb Muhlig. Muhlig had originally been granted his lot at First Peninsula Range A, Lot 10 which Rothenhauser registered as his in 1760. In the 300-acre land lottery, Philip drew Third Division Lot E-10. Philipp Rothenhauser appears on the 1770 census for Lunenburg Township. He had a family of five including himself: one man, two boys, one woman, one girl. Friedrich Rothenhauser appears on the 1773 poll tax of Lunenburg township. He was a farmer, owned ten cattle and five sheep and assessed a poll tax of three Schillings, eight and ha’pence. Contributed by Dorothy M. Rhodenizer:- Philipp was a Lutheran by religion, elected elder of the church in Lunenburg 1770; contributed to the construction of the church by giving material, money and time as a laborer. Philipp and his wife Elizabetha brought with them four children (others died in Germany):- 1. ANNA BARBARA, born 26 Aug 1740; married (or died) about 1755; 2. MARIA ELIZABETH, born 1742; died before 1755 (by April 1753). 3. PHILIPP GEORG, born 6 May 1744; married 7 May 1771; 4. HANS GEORG, born 1748; died before 1755. [See Page 5] The Murdoch left Rotterdam, Holland on June 22, 1751; arrived Halifax, NS 19 Sept. 1751, with master: Robert Hamilton, “298 souls, lost 29 enroute”. (Ref: “Foreign Protestants”). [Ref: Nelson Wagner] JOHANN PHILIPP ROTHENHAUSER: Notes from Bell’s Register Contributed by Albert Thornhill: Murdoch -1751, baker, age 40, from “Heyback” [Klein Heuback in the Principality of Lowenstein Wertheim] (see “The Foreign Protestants and the Settlement of Nova Scotia”, page 98) 1.2.2.1.
